BREAKING: The ACC school’s 2026 linebacker recruit class is flipped by Michigan football.

Michigan’s football program has flipped a class of 2026 linebacker recruit from an Atlantic Coast Conference school.

Richmond (Virginia) Huguenot three-star prospect Markel Dabney, who had been committed to Southern Methodist since May 13, announced his verbal pledge to the Wolverines on Friday night.

Despite being committed to SMU, the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder continued to explore other options. Michigan was among the schools he took an official visit to during the past month, and linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and the Wolverines staff appeared to make a strong impression.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Dabney is the No. 807 overall prospect in the country. He becomes the Wolverines’ 16th commitment this cycle and the first at the linebacker position.

As a junior, Dabney recorded 68 tackles, including 68 tackles, four sacks, four forced fumbles and two interceptions for 11-1 Huguenot. He has 25 reported offers, including Penn State, Ole Miss, Miami, Notre Dame and Tennessee.
Michigan has now landed nine commitments this month to skyrocket up the national rankings.
