BREAKING: With a 4-star wide receiver, Michigan feels more confident; commitment is on the way.
|Michigan football should receive a pledge on Friday night, and four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson is boosting confidence.
Thanks to the commitment of Zion Robinson, a Texas wide receiver with exceptional athleticism and a No. 132 overall pick, Michigan football has already acquired one elite wide receiver this week.
Robinson is a state champion in the high jump (6-8). This guy has the potential to be selected in the first round; he runs the 100-meter sprint in 10.89. He makes me think of Nico Collins. The upside is present.
But in the 2026 class, Robinson might not be the final four-star wide receiver commitment. According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Travis Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver ranked No. 144 overall in the 2026 class, is likely to add another on July 4.
Calvin Russell, a four-star who is ranked 47th overall, has helped Michigan football climb upward as well. If the Wolverines could land all three, you pondered. The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, who previously had a crystal ball prediction for Johnson, increased his confidence in his prediction, which is a huge plus for the Wolverines as Johnson makes his commitment announcement next week.
Friday night’s announcement from the 4-star offensive
The top-ranked athlete from Hawaii in the 2026 class, 6-foot-6, 318-pound offensive tackle Malakai Lee, is one of the top targets available. Overall, he is ranked No. 137. Alabama, Georgia, and Texas have all been vying for his commitment with Michigan football.

On Thursday, Sherrone Moore teased another commitment, after getting three already this week, and seemed really excited about it. It feels like he might have been talking about Lee, who has been trending with expert projections to land in Ann Arbor, across all three recruiting sites.
The Wolverines are ranked 18th in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite team rankings. They have 14 commitments — 15 if you include a long snapper not listed by 247 Sports — and eight of them are blue-chip recruits.
Seven other blue-chips, Lee included, have been projected to Michigan. If they land them all, that woud be around 15 with Carter Meadows and Savion Hiter still out there.
Big things are happening. Friday should be a continuation of that.
