BREAKING: After the most recent Jrue Holiday trade, Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst receives criticism from fans.

An unusual roster move was made by the Milwaukee Bucks just before the 2023–24 NBA preseason began. Although it was long known that Damian Lillard intended to leave the Portland Trailblazers, many people thought he would rather be dealt to the Miami Heat. He had stated so, after all. Months passed, though, and Portland rejected every shoddy offer Miami made.

Then, unexpectedly, Bucks general manager Jon Horst stepped in and negotiated a deal to acquire the now nine-time All-Star for Jrue Holiday. The Phoenix Suns, who also participated in the transaction, received Grayson Allen.

Even though Holiday had grown to be a fan favorite because of his amazing community service and his role in Milwaukee’s 2021 NBA Championship, it was difficult for fans to say “goodbye.” However, everyone understood Horst’s reasoning for making the trade: if one can acquire Damian Lillard, one of the 75 greatest players of all time, one goes out and gets him.

Jrue Holiday was transferred from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Boston Celtics.

The Trailblazers did not retain Holiday for very long, much to the chagrin of Bucks supporters. In return, they sent him to one of Milwaukee’s fiercest rivals, the Boston Celtics, for two first-round picks, Malcolm Brogdon, and Robert Williams.

In his first season with the Celtics, Holiday averaged 12.9 points as Boston’s fourth scoring option. He had averaged 19.3 points per game in his final season in Milwaukee. And although his scoring plummeted, his overall effectiveness on the court did not. He shot 48/43/83 from the field while also averaging 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.

Holiday finished sixth in Defensive Player of the Year voting that season, was named Second Team All-NBA Defense, and helped the Celtics win the NBA Championship.

After his initial season with Boston, Holiday received a four-year $134.4 million contract extension, indicating that the Celtics viewed him as a long-term piece of their franchise.

Following Jrue Holiday’s second trade, Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst faces criticism.

Fans are already aware that the Celtics recently sent Holiday back to Portland in exchange for two first-round choices and Anfernee Simons.

Even though Holiday is a wonderful person, it is impossible to ignore the fact that he is about to enter the third year of his monster contract and will turn 35 when the next season begins. Many people are curious as to how Boston was able to receive such a large payout for a player that averaged only 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while earning over $30 million annually.

Many Bucks supporters are also perplexed as to why Horst was unable to accomplish something similar:

There is still a long way to go, of course, and the NBA offseason just officially began. Horst has demonstrated that he is not afraid to make bold decisions, but in light of the Bucks’ three consecutive postseason eliminations in the first round, it is understandable why fans are upset.
