BREAKING: The ACC/SEC Challenge Clash will be hosted by South Carolina men’s basketball against Virginia Tech.

On December 2, the Gamecocks will play Virginia Tech at home in the ACC/SEC Challenge. With the series on a winning streak, South Carolina is primed for another big game.

In the third annual ACC/SEC Challenge, the South Carolina men’s basketball team will host Viginia Tech, ESPN announced Thursday. Tuesday, December 2, is the date of this matchup at Colonial Life Arena. There will be two games between the Gamecocks and Hokies in 2025–2026, though. In Atlanta, where South Carolina is one of the most anticipated teams in the country, the teams will square off on the floor in the season opening before the December game. Does the Gamecocks have a chance to win both sports?

South Carolina will play Virginia Tech on the hardwood for the third consecutive year in the ACC/SEC Challenge. With VT dropping the last three games, South Carolina now has a 20–13 series advantage. The Gamecocks hold the advantage of history, however the most recent match was on January 16, 1991. Lamont Paris and the Gamecock defeated Viginia Tech 70-60 on November 27 in the Fort Myers Tip-Off, one of the team’s 12 victories from the previous season.

David Cobb, a CBS Sports analyst, recently ranked each ACC/SEC Challenge game. “South Carolina is heavy on transfers again and will need double-boomerang guard Meechie Johnson Jr. to shoulder a heavy load,” he said, ranking the South Carolina vs. Virginia Tech game as the least interesting. He also predicted that the Hokies will win. Virginia Tech is the choice.

This December’s ACC/SEC Challenge is South Carolina’s chance to confirm their dominance following the autumn, thanks to home-court advantage, a formidable roster, and of course, fervent Gamecock supporters.
