Lazio are reportedly keen to tie Pedro down to a new contract as he continues to defy Father Time with his influential performances. The 37-year-old has been playing football at the Stadio Olimpico since joining Roma in the summer of 2020.
After a solitary campaign with the Giallorossi, he made the rare cross-town move to Formello and quickly established himself as a fan favorite among the Eagles.
Despite his advanced playing age, the former Barcelona and Chelsea man remains an important player in Marco Baroni’s side, even if he is not a regular starter. This season, he has already contributed seven goals and four assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.
Lazio are keen to keep Pedro
So, according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), the Biancocelesti are keen to keep Pedro beyond the current campaign, so they are looking to renew his contract which is due to expire in June. The Roman newspaper adds that the club’s management still considers the Spaniard an important player both on the pitch and in the dressing room. In this regard, La Repubblica (via LazioNews24) reveals that Lazio is close to finalizing agreements with both Adam Marusic and Christos Mandas for new deals. Like Pedro, the Montenegrin full-back is out of contract, but remains an important solution for Baroni, especially for his ability to cover both flanks.
One for the future
For his part, Mandas has been at Lazio since the summer of 2023. Although he remains a reserve for Ivan Provedel, he is considered the club’s designated goalkeeper for the future. The 23-year-old Greek remains one of Lazio’s lowest-earning players, so his new deal should yield a significant pay rise.
