Celtic’s bid to sign Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has reportedly encountered financial issues, according to sources who talked to Football Insider.

Eriksen’s pay could be a “significant barrier,” according to senior writer Pete O’Rourke in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

The 32-year-old’s £150,000 weekly deal with the 20-time champions is making things difficult for the Scottish powerhouses.

Reliable sources told Football Insider that Celtic won’t get “anywhere near” the salary he now receives, which might make a January trade impossible.

Brendan Rodgers’ attempts to win the Champions League would be aided by the addition of an accomplished European football player to his team.

Eriksen has been a dependable member of the United team this season, making 14 appearances across all competitions. Christian Eriksen might have to wait until the summer for Celtic because after this season, Eriksen’s contract at Old Trafford expires, allowing him to join another team on a free transfer. The Denmark international might be tempted to sit and wait in the summer, when more clubs might become available to him, in an effort to explore his free options.
