Girl, 11, shot in Richmond; 17-year-old arrested
The 17-year-old, now identified as Taveโon Chappell, will be charged as an adult for Dangerous Possession of a Firearm. A pre-trial will be held on Feb. 6, 2024.
An 11-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in Richmond on Thursday evening. A 17-year-old boy has since been arrested and charged in the shooting.
The teen, whose name has not been released, was charged with the following:
Criminal Recklessness, a Level 5 Felony
Dangerous Possession of a Firearm with a prior conviction, a Level 5 Felony
According to the Richmond Police Department, on Dec. 5, at approximately 5 p.m., the Wayne County Emergency Operations Center received a report from an urgent care facility regarding a female juvenile who had arrived with a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival of RPD, officers launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The preliminary investigation determined that the shooting occurred at a residence in the first block of South 18th Street in Richmond.
Reportedly, there were several individuals present at the time of the incident. Investigators have recovered evidence and interviewed those involved.
The victim was later transported to an area hospital for further treatment.
She is listed in critical condition.
The 17-year-old juvenile was transported to a detention facility in Terre Haute.
