JUST IN: James Maddison’s tears for Coventry family of tragic hit-and-run victim Keaton Slater
The city-born Tottenham Hotspur star has issued a touching message to the school boy’s family
Coventry’s James Maddison has spoken of his tears for the family of tragic hit-and-run victim Keaton Slater. The Tottenham Hotspur star midfielder took to social media to share his sorrow for the family of the 12-year-old.
The schoolboy was killed when he was hit by a BMW on Radford Road at around 4.30pm on Friday (June 14). A nationwide hunt is on for Dolars Aleksanders, who is wanted on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Maddison,a former Caludon Castle School student, explained how the tragic loss of the youngster had reduced him to tears. In a post on X,formerly known as Twitter, he also reached out to the Keaton’s heartbroken family.
He posted: “Tear in my eye reading about this young man’s death in my home city of Coventry.
Keaton’s family, I am so sorry for your loss.
“If there is anything I can do to help please reach out whenever you feel. Sending my love to all of Keaton’s family and friends. Rest easy young man.”
He is the latest to pay tribute to the youngster as the city continues to mourn his tragic loss. He was a huge Sky Blues fan and Coventry City FC also issued a heartfelt message to his family.
They also pledged to host its own tribute to the schoolboy.
The message read: “Coventry City are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of young supporter Keaton Slater.
“Keaton was a huge Coventry City supporter, and the thoughts and condolences of everyone at Coventry City Football Club and the entire Sky Blue community are with Keaton’s family and friends at this awful time for them.
“The Sky Blues will liaise with Keaton’s family to support them, and to help them to remember and to pay tribute to Keaton.”
Police investigations continue to track down Aleksanders
Police investigations continue to track down Aleksanders and Supt Paul Joyce issued a warning to anyone who may be helping to hide him. “Anybody that is knowingly harbouring somebody for an offence such as this will be committing offences themselves and therefore I cannot stress enough the gravity of the importance around doing that.”
He added: “It is the most tragic set of circumstances that you could imagine. We are currently supporting the family with specially trained officers, there is a huge investigation team that is set up in order to try and find those who are responsible and we cannot thank the public enough so far for their cooperation with regards to trying to locate those that are responsible.”
A West Midlands Police spokesperson added: “If you have seen Aleksanders, or know where he is, please do not approach him but call 999 immediately, quoting log 3407 of June 14.”
