SEC Network’s Roman Harper talks about whether Alabama makes CFP.
Roman Harper believes Alabama will be in the College Football Playoff, even if admits he might be looking at the CFP scenarios with Crimson-colored glasses.
The SEC Network analyst joined SportsCenter on Sunday and was asked if Kalen DeBoer’s team would make the 12-team postseason.
“I would say yes, but I say it hesitantly,” he said. “Everybody wants to know, and it’s really because of the chaos took place around college football.
Does Alabama win and actually deserve to get in?
“I don’t know if I can confidently say, ‘Yes, they are.’ Call me a homer if you want to, but, because of what happened, they do have a pathway. They have more of a chance than I thought they did when I woke up yesterday morning. Because of what happened with Miami, now with South Carolina, that will be the discussion that needs to be had.”
Jalen Milroe passed for 256 yards and ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 13 Alabama to a 28-14 victory over Auburn on Saturday to keep the Crimson Tide’s playoff hopes alive.
It was the final chance for Alabama (9-3, 5-3 SEC
No. 13 CFP) to make a statement in Kalen DeBoer’s up-and-down debut season. The Tide must wait to see how the chase shakes out, but the team perhaps got a boost when CFP No. 12 Clemson (lost to South Carolina 17-14) — which plays SMU for the ACC championship — and No. 6 Miami (lost to Syracuse 42-38) both lost.
“I say, ‘Yes they do’ because of everything with the ACC, maybe only getting one,” Harper said of the Tide’s chances of getting in. “South Carolina will play a large part in this because South Carolina had a more impressive win yesterday than Alabama, but Alabama did win.”
