Colorado Makes Thanksgiving Night Splash With Four Massive Commitments
Thanksgiving Day had just one college football game: Memphis vs. Tulane. However, the Colorado Buffaloes made headlines without playing a game.
The Buffaloes landed four commitments on Thanksgiving night, headlined by four-star EDGE London Merritt and four-star offensive tackle Carde Smith.
Three-star wide receiver Quentin Gibson and three-star EDGE Alexander McPherson also announced their commitments on Thursday night.
Merritt announced his commitment on an episode of “Night Cap” with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson.
“I want to thank God for giving me the ability to play football at this high of a level,” Merritt began the announcement. “Without further ado.
I’ll be committing to the Colorado University.”
Merritt is the No. 260 overall prospect and No. 30 EDGE in the class of 2025, according to the On3 industry ranking. He recorded 31 tackles, four tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hurries, and five sacks in 2023.
Merritt decommitted from Ohio State earlier in the week, and the Colorado buzz was as strong as ever.
Smith was previously committed to Auburn before flipping to USC in August. He opened his commitment again on Nov. 20, with many recruiting experts projecting a flip to Colorado.
Smith is the No. 228 overall prospect and No. 20 offensive tackle in the class of 2025, according to the On3 industry ranking.

After that, the news came again for Colorado as Class of 2025 EDGE Alexander McPherson committed to the Buffs, per Hayes Fawcett of On3.
“BREAKING: Class of 2025 EDGE Alexander McPherson has Committed to Colorado, he tells me for @on3recruits. The 6’4 250 EDGE from Stuart, FL was previously Committed to Oklahoma State.”
McPherson is a three-star recruit previously committed to Oklahoma State and ranks as the No. 865 overall prospect in the class of 2025. He recorded 53 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2022.
He transferred to IMG Academy ahead of the 2023 season.
The Buffaloes ended the night with their fourth commitment, three-star wide receiver Quentin Gibson. The 5-foot-8, 165-pounder is the No. 181 wide receiver in the class of 2025. Gibson had a breakout season in 2023, totaling 542 yards and seven touchdowns.
Following Thursday night’s commitments, Colorado’s 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 30 nationally and No. 2 in the Big 12. The Buffaloes jumped 35 spots in the national rankings, giving head coach Deion Sanders plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail.
