Texas QBs Arch Manning, Quinn Ewers both possible Longhorns transfer to Auburn after the College Football Playoff
Things are so uncertain right now surrounding Texas QB Quinn Ewers’ future, and whether it’ll be in the NFL or college football in 2025, that A to Z Sports’ Brian Davis floated the possibilities of Ewers and Arch Manning hitting the transfer portal depending on who Steve Sarkisian deems the starter for next season.
“Sarkisian will let this season play out, good or bad, with Ewers,” Davis prefaced before saying, “Then, the two will probably have some hard conversations. Would Manning be OK with waiting his turn another year? Would Manning hit the transfer portal? Who knows? Would Ewers leave — transferring somewhere else and not going pro — knowing that Texas fans want Manning to take the reins?”
Nothing is definitive. But everything is on the table.
Sarkisian pleaded to Longhorn fans to put the QB competition talk to bed as Texas looks to finish their 2024 season strong after a 9-1 start.
“I tell this to all Longhorn Nation. Like, we’re 9-1 for the second year in a row,” Sarkisian said on November 21. “We’re competing for a conference championship for the second year in a row. We’re competing for a spot in the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row.
“Don’t forget what the last decade looked like, OK? Let’s just remember how good we got it right now and appreciate this team of how good they’re playing right now.”
Whether Sarkisian wants to talk about it or not, the Ewers/Manning narrative will persist until the final whistle of the Longhorns’ season. If Texas doesn’t win it all with Ewers getting snaps, the margins of error in this sport will have fans wondering what could’ve been if Manning was in instead.
That’ll be an uncomfortable narrative to address until he doesn’t have two elite QBs in his room. And then he’ll have an even bigger problem.
