Norwich City have started to find a bit of consistency under Johannes Hoff Thorup, and he is already looking at adding to a talented squad.
The Canaries took an interest in Emiliano Marcondes in the summer after his contract at AFC Bournemouth expired, but a deal was not concluded.
Nevertheless, with the Championship season well underway, the link between the Canaries and the 29-year-old has arisen once again, with Thorup managing him while at Nordsjaelland in 2023.
The current Norwich boss spoke to Danish media company, Tipsladet, about the midfielder: “Well, I’m talking to E (Emiliano Marcondes), and I’ve talked to him quite a bit.
“What is important to him is that he gets to take a step in his career. He needs to find a place he can be for the next two or three years.
“As a club, we had to find out how he would fit into that strategy and how he would fit into our plans.
“Immediately it wasn’t exactly something we were missing, but you never know in this world of football, and E and I talk as often as we can, because he is a great person and a good footballer who has done a lot for that club I come from.”
Norwich given the green light to proceed with the deal
After missing out on the Dane in the summer, it perhaps comes as no surprise to see Thorup register his interest once again, especially as he is a player he knows quite well.
Marcondes has made 98 appearances in the Championship for both Brentford and Bournemouth, winning promotion to the Premier League with both clubs.
This, combined with his relationship with the current Canaries boss, makes him a smart target according to Football League World’s Norwich Fan Pundit, Zeke Downes.
“I think we definitely need some more midfield reinforcements, especially in the attacking areas. We’ve not really got an actual number 10, I don’t think, now, since Gabriel Sara has left. So, I wouldn’t be against the idea of Marcondes signing.”
He continued: “I’ve not seen too much of him since leaving Bournemouth but if Thorup likes him, then I think it’s a good sign because he’s only really going to be looking at the players that suit the system and that seems to be working well already.
“So, I would trust that whoever he’s looking at would suit how he wants to play and will be a signing that’s worth looking at.”

Norwich are lacking a little bit in midfield
Despite the performances of Borja Sainz, Norwich’s midfield does seem to lack a little bit of depth, especially if their Spanish maestro does get injured for a significant period of time.
His hat-trick against Derby County, while controversial, summed up his ability to drift into areas undetected by defenders, and also his skill at carrying the ball forward at pace.
