Richardson participated in the 48th edition of the Memorial Van Damme on Friday, where she was scheduled to compete in the 100m finals on Friday, September 13. However, the American prodigy had a forgettable outing in the event as she finished second to last in the nine-woman field with a time of 11.23 seconds.

The current Olympic champion Julien Alfred of St. Lucia won the trophy, clocking in at 10.88 seconds.Following her disappointing defeat, the Texas native has withdrawn from the 200m finals set for Saturday, September 14. Fans were upset by Richardson’s withdrawal and took to social media to share their opinions. A fan wrote:

“The same way when she won Worlds and was dubbed as graceful because she was promoting ‘sisterhood’. It is the same way she should have taken her losses and continue to champion those causes.”

“Let Sydney McLaughlin Levrone take her place! I am a big Sha’Carri fan but this drop out is lame and disappointing,” they wrote.
