Norwich City have put a £30 million price tag on striker Josh Sargent, amid interest from clubs in the MLS, according to The Sun’s live transfer blog (9:47am).

Johannes Hoff Thorup does not want to lose his main man on the final day of the summer window, and even joked that he will keep the striker locked “back home in my basement” until the transfer deadline has passed.

Sargent has attracted interest from MLS clubs this summer, and was the subject of a £15.1 million offer from FC Cincinnati and a £20 million bid from St Louis City, both of which were unsuccessful.

Norwich are likely to keep Josh Sargent

It seems as though Norwich will keep hold of Sargent beyond the transfer deadline tonight, especially after the emergence of his £30 million price tag.

The 24-year-old has made an excellent start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign, despite the Canaries’ relatively slow start, having scored twice and provided an assist in the first three games.

He signed a new five-year contract at Carrow Road less than a year ago, which is set to keep him at the club until 2028, so Norwich are under no pressure to sell their number nine.

The USA international has scored 31 goals in the second tier since Norwich were relegated from the Premier League in 2022, and with such a short amount of time remaining to find a replacement if he was sold today, it is no surprise that the Canaries have slapped a hefty price tag on his head.

Norwich signed 20-year-old Croatian striker Ante Crnac earlier in the transfer window following Adam Idah’s permanent departure to Celtic, and Johannes Hoff Thorup will hope that his current striking options are still the same once the deadline has passed tonight.

Josh Sargent could be key for Norwich this season

If the first few games of the season are anything to go by, Sargent will be an important player for Norwich this season.

His goal and assist at home against Blackburn Rovers salvaged a point for the Canaries, while he also scored the opening goal in the 1-1 draw against Sheffield United.

Sargent has proven that he is a reliable source of goals in the Championship during the last couple of seasons, and if Norwich are going to have a chance of finishing inside the top-six again at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, his attacking output will likely be crucial.

With Norwich having put a £30 million price tag on his head, it looks likely that Sargent will remain at the club today.
