Joe Crann drops Sheffield Wednesday team selection hint ahead of Plymouth Argyle opener

Danny Rohl and his Owls side have just one more pre-season friendly left before preparations for Plymouth will truly get underway.

Liam Palmer plays in his testimonial match this weekend with Spanish outfit Leganes heading to S6.

With nine new players having arrived at Hillsborough this summer, many are wondering how Rohl will line up going into the new season, and indeed what formation he’ll play.

As he did last season, Rohl has been changing between a back-four and a back-five during this summer’s friendly fixtures, and the German looks set to interchange between the two again next season.

But we might have been given an early indication into how Sheffield Wednesday will line up against Plymouth.

Last time out, Sheffield Wednesday drew with Werder Bremen in what was their final game of their Austria/Germany pre-season tour.

Rohl fielded two sides once again, in a game that lasted four quarters of 30 minutes.

Speaking on Owls Heaven, journalist Joe Crann suggested that the Sheffield Wednesday team which played the second hour of the game is likely the one that will start against Plymouth Argyle.

Crann said: “From a Wednesday perspective, the second 60 minutes was where we saw Josh Windass and Barry Bannan, that group of players, and I think that probably gave us the best indicator yet of how Wednesday will might set up against Plymouth.”

The Sheffield Wednesday team which finished the game vs Werder Bremen was; James Beadle, Yan Valery, Dominic Iorfa, Akin Famewo, Max Lowe, Barry Bannan, Svante Ingelsson, Jamal Lowe, Olaf Kobacki, Anthony Musaba, and Josh Windass.
