Virginia Tech basketball: Hunter Cattoor signs with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers summer league team

For the first time since becoming Virginia Tech’s head coach in 2019, Mike Young will not have Hunter Cattoor on the team when the Hokies begin the 2024-25 season in November.

Cattoor departed Blacksburg after averaging a career-high 13.5 points per game last season. Cattoor averaged at least 10 PPG in each of his final three seasons.

While the Hokies will look completely different next season, Cattoor could be busy. On Friday, the 6-foot-3 guard from Orlando signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers summer league team. No, Cattoor isn’t signed to Cleveland’s roster, but playing in the summer league is terrific exposure that could help him land with the Cavaliers during the season, or with another team

Cattoor set a Virginia Tech record with career 3-pointers made with 332. For his career, Cattoor shot almost 42% from beyond the arc, which is another trait that will excite NBA coaches.

Congratulations to Hunter. While we’ll miss him in Blacksburg, we wish him the best of luck in his future on and off the court.
