Carlos Sainz verdict on Ferrari upgrades speaks volumes ahead of home race

Ferrari star Carlos Sainz has given his verdict on his team’s upgrades ahead of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix. Sainz and his Scuderia team-mate Charles Leclerc both failed to finish the Canadian Grand Prix last time out and will be desperate for a much-improved showing in Barcelona.

Ferrari have endured a tumultuous season so far, with the team securing nine podiums in the opening nine rounds. And Sainz and Leclerc both have one race victory under their belts.

But the pair’s title hopes were dealt a huge blow in Montreal, with the Spaniard crashing out during the latter stages after the Monegasque had retired his car due to an engine issue.

The Ferrari cars have had their sidepods, ‘Cobra’ winglets next to the cockpit and rear wing upgraded ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

After the changes had been made, Sainz was able to clock the third fastest time in FP1 and the second quickest time in FP2. But Leclerc was only able to record the 11th and sixth quickest times across the two sessions.

And after being quizzed about Friday’s practice sessions by the official F1 website, Sainz appeared to be underwhelmed
