Brazilian media claim Newcastle are eyeing Bruno Guimaraes’ international teammate
This comes from popular Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, who claim that Newcastle have ‘expressed an interest’ in the attacking midfielder along with Tottenham and Aston Villa.
They also state that the 28-year-old promised Marco Silva that he’d stay at Craven Cottage for his first two seasons, but it’s ‘unlikely’ he’ll stay this summer after the Whites previously turned down bids from Atletico Madrid and Al-Etifaq.
The former Man Utd talent has been called up to the Brazil national squad ahead of this month’s Copa America, beating the likes of Joelinton and Casemiro to a place as they prepare to face Paraguay, Colombia and Costa Rice in Group D.
He works hard, has plenty of ability, is versatile and has enjoyed a real resurgence after losing his way a few years ago, but I can’t see us bringing in another midfielder who won’t come cheap and isn’t far from his 30s.
It’s a big outlet reporting on our ‘interest’ in Brazil, but it could be agent-driven in an attempt to attract more suitors or even alert Newcastle; who already have two Samba stars in Bruno and big Joe.
