Tiger-Cats Finalize Roster with Cuts and Practice Squad Announcement

Friday night marked a significant milestone for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as they concluded their training camp and pre-season for 2024 in a thrilling match against the Toronto Argonauts at the University of Guelph. This also signaled the end of the road for many players who had been vying for a spot on the Tiger-Cats 2024 roster. The Tiger-Cats have now unveiled their final roster cuts for 2024, a decision that underscores the intense competition and high stakes of the CFL. Among the players who will continue their journey with the Tiger-Cats on the practice roster are some promising talents. Defensively, American defensive lineman Kerslle Sande and Trevon Mason, National linebacker Ryan Baker, National defensive back Patrick Burke Jr., and American defensive back Mark Milton have all earned their place. Offensively, National wide receiver Tyler Ternowski, American wide receivers Kaylon Geiger and Dezmon Patmon, and American Brandon Kemp have also made the Cut. Notably, the Tiger-Cats added global punter Kaare Vedvik to the practice squad roster.

With the conclusion of training camp, the Tiger-Cats needed to reduce their roster to 45 active players. A few players, like National defensive lineman Mason Bennett, American wide receiver Omar Bayless, and Global punter Bailey Flint, were cut from the roster after being expected to remain on it. Several others competed for a spot during the Tiger-Cats pre-season games but could not secure a place on the 2024 roster.

On the defensive line, the Tiger-Cats have cut National defensive lineman, Dyton Blackett, Anthony Federico, and Mitchell Townsend, along with American defensive lineman Darrius Moragne, Adam Plant Jr., Derrick Tangelo, and Cedric Wilcots. Hamilton cut a couple of linebackers, including Americans Aaron Hansford and Marvin Pierre. In the defensive backfield, the players cut from the roster included Nation defensive back Johnathan Giustini and American defensive backs Shakur Brown, Arquon Bush, and David Vereen.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Tiger-Cats cut American quarterback Kevin Thomson from the roster. The Tiger-Cats cut Several wide receivers, including American wide receivers Chris Coleman, Dev Holmes, Marcus Rogers, TJ Vasher, and National wide receiver Jacob Patten. In addition to wide receivers, Hamilton cut two American tight ends from the roster, including Michael Ezeike and Camren McDonald. In the offensive backfield, the national running back, Matthew Peterson, and the American running back, Calvin Tyler Jr., were cut from the roster. The Tiger-Cats also cut several offensive linemen from the roster, including National offensive linemen John Kourtis, Jakub Szott, and American lineman Kendrick Sartor.

With these roster cuts, the task of evaluating players during training camp is complete, and now the Hamilton coaching staff turns their attention to the CFL regular season. The Tiger-Cats open the 2024 regular season when they travel to Calgary on Friday, June 7th, at 9 pm EDT. Week 1 is a big opportunity for starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to return to Calgary, where he played a majority of his CFL career before coming to Hamilton.
