Visit confirms Ohio TE Grant Houser made the right pick in Louisville
Just about one month after making a commitment to the University of Louisville, Wapakoneta, Ohio, High School tight end Grant Houser was back on campus over the weekend. He was one of 14 prospects making his official visit with the Cardinals.
Heading into the visit, Houser said he was looking forward to strengthening his relationship with the coaches and trying to help recruit some other prospects. But after his visit, Houser said the trip also did something else – confirmed in his mind that he made the right decision.
“Oh for sure,” Houser told Cardinal Authority. “I really felt that this is the place for me.
“I made the right decision and I am so happy for the decision that I made.”
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Houser was back on campus for the first time since he committed in early May just a few days after making an unofficial visit to campus.
“It was really great,” Houser said. “Being back and seeing everybody on campus again, it was awesome. And then being there with some other guys who were committed and doing our part to recruit some of the other guys, it was awesome.
“A lot of stuff we really didn’t get to see the last time,” he added. “We went around the city and we were touring everything. It was cool to see it all.”
Among the things around the city the visitors toured was the Muhammad Ali Center and the group spent time at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
“I have never done either,” he said. “It was so much fun. The Churchill Downs thing was really cool and it was neat because I didn’t know going into it if horse racing was going to be really entertaining and then all of a sudden everybody is getting into it. It was really fun.
“The Muhammad Ali Center was really cool. You learn a lot about him that you would never even guess. It was great.”
Houser said he already had a good relationship with tight end coach Ryan Wallace, but it was nice to get to spend more time with him. He was also excited to get to chat with head coach Jeff Brohm and several of the other staff members.
“Coach Wallace is great, he’s a real down-to-earth dude and is a normal everyday guy,” Houser said. “Coach Brohm is just a really humble dude. He’s about his business.”
Houser picked the Cardinals over additional scholarships from Air Force, Arkansas State, Army, Central Michigan, Connecticut, Cornell, Eastern Michigan, Miami of Ohio, Navy, Toledo and others. As a junior, Houser averaged 9.2 yards a catch in five games, according to MaxPreps.com.
