Notre Dame football QB commit up front about ‘business’ of the sport

Despite the fact that the Notre Dame football team got a commitment from 2026 quarterback Noah Grubbs, it’s their 2025 quarterback commitment that’s been the talk of the weekend.

Deuce Knight has some Irish fans nervous thanks to a Crystal Ball that has him flipping to Ole Miss. Knight was in South Bend over the weekend for the Irish Invasion and he talked briefly about the rumors. What he said was forthright, if not exactly something that is going to make ND fans feel better.

The good news here is that Knight was in town at all. It’s hard to make the case the quarterback doesn’t want to be a part of the program when he comes to South Bend as often as he does. The bad news is that he didn’t close down the Ole Miss rumors so much as confirm they’re in the running

After he took part in the Irish Invasion, Knight talked to Kyle Kelly of On3 about his feelings regarding ND and the other schools that are chasing him. His comments about Lane Kiffin and company weren’t real encouraging from a Fighting Irish fan standpoint.

“They stand good. Ole Miss, they stay hitting me up,” Knight said. “They let me know that they are not going to stop until I sign, until I put pen to paper. It’s been great. “

“They got Coach (Lane) Kiffin there and I feel like that kind of speaks for itself. He’s an offensive mastermind. He has plenty of systems. He’s not scared to start a freshman. Jalen Hurts started with him. So, it’s been good.”

Knight did add that’s still very much a commit to the Golden Domers. But he knows he needs to cover his bases.

“College football is a business,” Knight told Kelly. “You never know what crazy things could happen. Then, you’ll be like, ‘Oh, man. I’m out in the water.’ You never know what could happen. It’s life. It’s crazy.”

Notre Dame football fans can’t love to hear that. They also can’t be surprised. It’s going to be a race to the finish line
