WINNIPEG, Mb. – Former Wildcat defensive back, Patrick Rogers will head north of the border to join the Winnipeg Blue Bombers roster, the team announced this afternoon.

“It’s a blessing to continue my journey on becoming a professional football player. It’s not exactly what I thought my journey would be, but God has a bigger vision for how my career should go,” Rogers said. “I’m very excited for this new chapter in my life!”

Over Rogers time at CWU (2018-23) he earned American Football Coaches Association First Team Defense All-American and a Don Hansen NCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-American, both in 2022. He appeared in 46 games for the Wildcats during his career registering 110 defensive solo tackles, 65 assists, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks and seven interceptions – including two returned for touchdowns.

“We are very excited for Pat. It is a testament to what you can do when you put in the work,” said CWU Head Football Coach Chris Fisk. “Pat exemplifies everything that we are about in this program!”

Rogers will not be up North alone as he’ll join former CWU linebacker and Hall of Famer Adam Bighill on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers roster.

Rogers will join a historic franchise of the Canadian Football League. The Blue Bombers have hoisted 12 Grey Cups winning two in the past five years in 2021 and 2019. They have 17 Western Division titles including the past three-straight seasons on top of 21 Western Division Championships, winning the Western Division four out of the past five seasons.

On March 28, Rogers participated in a Pro Day hosted by the University of Idaho and Washington State University and put-up amazing statistics. A vertical jump of 39.5″, broad jump of 10’6″, 4.51 40-yard dash, 12 reps on bench press, and ran a 6.96 on a 3-cone drill.

Those stats clearly paid off because the Blue Bombers called Rogers shortly after his pro day and showed heavy interest. They felt he could fill their demand and need for defensive backs.
