On Sunday afternoon, it was announced that Belmont transfer Cade Tyson has officially committed to North Carolina. This announcement comes just a week after Tyson made an official visit to Chapel Hill, as Tyson officially posted the news on social media.

Rumblings have been ongoing essentially since Tyson arrived on campus, as Zyavier Ricks posted the news ahead of the curve on Saturday afternoon.

This is a big-time get for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels, as Tyson provides the shooting ability that the program has desired in the transfer portal.

This past season, Tyson was a lethal offensive weapon, averaging 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Based on the NCAA’s criteria for three-point shooting percentage, Tyson ranks second nationally for the 2023-2024 season.

With Cormac Ryan and Harrison Ingram departing, finding legitimate scoring options has been at the top of the UNC basketball program’s to-do list. Now you can officially put Cade Tyson in the Tar Heels plans for the 2024-2025 season, as they went out and got one of the best shooters available in the transfer portal.

Tyson likely factors in as a “stretch four,” as he could essentially be called upon to fill a similar role that we saw Brady Manek and Harrison Ingram fulfill over the last few seasons. He could also see time at the wing if the Tar Heels elect to utilize a bigger lineup at points this season.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program still have three scholarships to work with, but finding another forward (preferably a true center) will now become the focal point of North Carolina’s recruiting efforts.

Tar Heel fans waited long enough, as we can now look forward to seeing Cade Tyson wearing a Carolina blue uniform this upcoming season.
