NORMAN — Spring transfer portal season has arrived.
The two-week window for spring football transfers began Tuesday and will run through April 30 (here’s everything you need to know about the spring transfer period). The spring transfer portal window isn’t expected to be as busy as the winter transfer period, but there’s still expected to be roster movement across the college football landscape.
That includes at Oklahoma, which is expected to explore its options in the portal over the coming weeks, particularly as it pertains to both lines of scrimmage — offensive line and defensive tackle, specifically, will be areas the Sooners will aim to upgrade or add complementary pieces. While Oklahoma is not expected to see too many departures during the spring window after 18 players departed the program at the end of the season, attrition is still expected, especially as the program works to get down to the 85-scholarship limit ahead of the 2024 season. OU is currently projected at 90 scholarship players for the 2024 season (that number includes recently retired defensive tackle Jacob Lacey, who is still on scholarship, as well as the Sooners’ seven 2024 signees who have not yet arrived on campus), so there will be some necessary trimming of the roster upon the conclusion of spring practices to get down to the NCAA limit of 85.
