Since Hubert Davis took over as the head of the UNC basketball program following Roy Williams’ retirement in 2021, he has shown the ability to attack the transfer portal.

This offseason appears no different, with Davis and the UNC staff very active within the portal as they look to make the necessary additions to next year’s roster in Chapel Hill. Davis’ most recent transfer target seems to also be one of his earliest this cycle.

Former Belmont transfer Cade Tyson entered the transfer portal nearly three weeks ago back on March 25, and he has been highly sought after by a collection of high-major schools, including the Tar Heels. After UNC’s season came to a close in the Sweet 16, the Tar Heels were in quick contact with Tyson.

It appears that initial contact has led to some mutual interest, as 247Sports’ Travis Branham reported late Thursday evening that UNC is set to host Tyson on an official visit next weekend. It will be Tyson’s second official visit, with the sophomore set to check out Tennessee this weekend.

Tyson’s interest in the two schools make sense, with connections to both the Tar Heels and the Volunteers. He grew up in Monroe, N.C., just under a three-hour drive from UNC’s Chapel Hill campus, while he played his first two collegiate seasons at Belmont, just three hours away from Tennessee’s campus.
