Less than two years ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers made the decision to use their first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to select former University of Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett.
As a rookie with the Steelers in 2022, Pickett had some struggles, but he also displayed some flashes of why he was a first-round draft pick.
The 2023 season was a much different story for Pittsburgh and their young quarterback, however, and it ultimately resulted in the team recently trading him to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Recently, Pickett shared a goodbye message on his Instagram account to the city of Pittsburgh (via Steelers Depot on Twitter).
It’s certainly interesting that Pickett’s goodbye message was intended for the city of Pittsburgh and not the Steelers.
For a quarterback who was once viewed as the future of the franchise, it didn’t take very long for Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin and the rest of the team’s staff to realize that Pickett wasn’t really going to lead them anywhere.
In 25 games with the Steelers, the former first-round draft pick completed 62.6 percent of his passes, threw a total of 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, averaged 179 passing yards per game, and had a passer rating of just 78.8.
Following his trade to the Eagles, Pickett now gets a fresh start and a chance to get his NFL career back on track as the No. 2 quarterback behind Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.
