Texas Tech transfer offensive tackle Matt Keeler has committed to Northwestern.
The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Keeler is an Illinois native who prepped at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange. He then went to St. Thomas More in Connecticut for a prep year, Coffeyville Community College for a spring (season was moved due to Covid-19), then committed to Texas Tech.
With the Red Raiders, Keeler played in 25 games with two starts.
“I think bottom line it really boils down to leadership,” Keeler told 247Sports. “I’m a huge fan of what Coach Braun is building & the process in which he’s going about it. All the men inside that building carry themselves extremely well, & it’s clear what their priorities are. I look forward to playing under Coach O’Boyle. Being in the same room and getting to learn from someone who has been around football like he has is a privilege.”
Keeler was a three-star prospect out of Coffeyville as a JUCO recruit. He is currently unranked in the portal.
College basketball’s regular season has stunningly reached the final week. Selection Sunday is less than two weeks away, and conference tournaments are already starting on Monday with Atlantic Sun, and will be a tizzy for the next 13 days.
The chase for at-large bids has started to materialize. Texas has hopped off the bubble after back-to-back wins. The Longhorns are a safe bet to dance. The same goes for Gonzaga. The Zags pounded both San Francisco and Saint Mary’s. They won’t need the automatic bid to make the Big Dance. That’s a scary team that is only getting better.
South Carolina was another borderline bubble team last week. Not anymore. Predictive metrics still don’t love this team, but the Gamecocks keep winning. Wins over Texas A&M and Florida elevate South Carolina to “lock status” and this week’s showdowns against Tennessee and Mississippi State have seeding implications only. What a magnificent coaching job by Lamont Paris.
