The Boston Red Sox still have plenty of questions to address before the 2024 campaign kicks off.

Boston’s starting rotation has garnered the most headlines but other areas of the club could use some work. The Red Sox have been looking to add another right-handed bat after losing Justin Turner in free agency.

The Red Sox have been linked to multiple players — including outfielder Adam Duvall — but haven’t gotten a deal done yet. If the Red Sox don’t sign Duvall, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the club opt for more of a bench option if they decide to still add.

One player who could make some sense in free agency is veteran third baseman Evan Longoria.

The three-time All-Star still is available. He has been unclear on his plans for the future but if he decides to continue playing, he could be a very solid pickup for Boston. Longoria spent the 2023 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks and clubbed 11 home runs and drove in 28 runs in 74 games.

Longoria could see time both as Boston’s designated hitter and help fill in at third base for Rafael Devers while providing veteran leadership in the clubhouse. Boston didn’t just lose one of its best offensive players from the 2023 season in Turner, but also one of the most important voices in the clubhouse.

Maybe someone like Longoria could help fill this hole. He is a 16-year big league veteran who certainly has seen plenty of success. Plus, he won’t cost much because he’s 38 years old.

Boston still is looking for ways to add to the roster and someone like Longoria certainly could help.
