Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s Prep running back Isaiah West (5-foot-11, 208) has been pursued by some of the top college football programs in the country but he made it a priority to visit Kentucky earlier this month for Junior Day.

“I got a teammate, David Washington, that is already committed there. I remember his process and he was kinda leaning towards another school, but when he went to Kentucky, he completely flipped. I was like, ‘okay, what did he see that is so special?’ Coach [Jay] Boulware made a few trips down to the school and I wanted to keep the relationship going,” West told CatsPause.com.

Politely take the compliment on the move perhaps.

If you hang around to enjoy it too long, then maybe you’re nibbling on the rat poison, as Nick Saban likes to speak of when a team buys too much into the flattery when things are going well.

Still, compared to the alternative of not being on anyone’s radar at all, longtime followers of Nebraska hoops much prefer hearing something like former Michigan coach John Beilein speak as highly as he did about this Husker team on the BTN broadcast after NU’s 73-55 win over Minnesota on Sunday.

“They remind me a little bit of our 2018 team that went all the way to the championship game. I think they like each other. … They’ve got a lot of talent and everybody can score in different ways,” Beilein said. “But when they get down to the other end of the court, they lock in. I would love to personally coach this team because they’re veteran, they share the basketball, they want to defend. They’re exciting.”

Husker guard Brice Williams plans on this team continuing to rise, as it looks to keep stacking wins on top of a four-game winning streak that has Nebraska now 20-8 overall and 10-7 in the Big Ten.
