The Boston Red Sox may not be done adding to their roster after all.
Spring Training has finally arrived, and the 2024 regular season will soon begin. While this is true, there are still a surprisingly large number of elite free agents available. Cody Bellinger, perhaps the best free agent available, eventually agreed to terms with the Chicago Cubs.
Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, and Matt Chapman are among the greatest free agents available right now. They will all find new homes soon, and the Red Sox remain a viable possibility for Montgomery if his price reduces, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
“Montgomery has also drawn interest from the (Los Angeles Angels), who appear primed to ultimately land either him or (Blake Snell) when all is said and done,” Feinsand said in a statement. “The Red Sox are also on the fringe of the Montgomery scenario, though it appears Boston is waiting for his price to drop. Perhaps a shorter-term agreement with opt-outs might work for the Red Sox.”
The huge lefty will be associated to the Red Sox until he deals somewhere. He almost makes too much sense for Boston, and he’s exactly the sort of player the team requires. However, it appears that the club may be hesitant to make a huge deal.
Bellinger was seeking for a deal worth more than $200 million at one time, but received far less from the Cubs. If Montgomery’s fate repeats itself, he may end up in Boston.
