Unai Emery, the manager of Aston Villa, is in the running for the position at Bayern Munich.
That’s according to Kicker writer Georg Holzner, who made the surprising assertion on X (previously known as Twitter).
On Wednesday, the Bundesliga champions confirmed manager Thomas Tuchel will step down at the conclusion of the season.
The Bavarian club is considering Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, as well as former coach Hansi Flick and Zinedine Zidane. The Aston Villa manager has now been added to the list of hopefuls.
Holzner reports that Emery is being observed by the German champions. He adds that the 52-year-old is ‘well known’ to Bayern, having led Villarreal to victory over them.
The writer does not specify whether the former Arsenal boss is willing to leave Aston Villa for Bayern.
Aston Villa signed Emery from Villarreal in October 2022, and he led them to seventh place last season.
The Villans have had a great league season and are presently fourth in the table, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Aston Villa are also in contention for the UEFA Conference League title.
