Calvin Ridley is the most talked-about receiver on the Jacksonville Jaguars team right now. But should we be discussing another? In a PFF article listing one likely cut candidate for each team before free agency opens on March 13, PFF chose to include Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones. Releasing Jones would save the Jaguars $4,183,294 in salary space while also resulting in $6,569,334 in dead money. “Jones missed several sections of the 2023 season, and Jacksonville is planning to bring back fellow wideout Calvin Ridley on a considerably larger veteran deal. “The emergence of rookie Parker Washington may help fill the void here in 2024 and beyond,” PFF noted.

Jones had an injury in Week 2 of 2023 that sidelined him for the majority of the season, with Jones missing two separate stints of time. Jones caught 34 catches for 321 yards and two scores in nine games with the Jaguars last season. Jones has been third on the team in targets (185) and receiving yards (1,144) during the previous two seasons, while also ranking third in receptions (113) and tied for fourth in touchdown catches (7). He also ranks fourth in receiving yards per game, at 45.8. Jones signed a three-year, $24 million contract with 14 million in guarantees with the Jaguars in 2022.
