CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Queen City natives Seth Curry and Grant Williams have made their hometown proud in their first two games donning the Purple and Teal.

Both players joined the Hornets in a deadline-day trade with the Dallas Mavericks and have made immediate impacts.

In two games since joining the Hornets, Curry and Williams have combined for 57 points on an efficient 19 of 37 shooting. Charlotte won both games over the Grizzlies and Pacers, respectively.

While the stat-sheet contributions are obviously appreciated, perhaps the most needed aspect of the game that they have brought is energy and a winning attitude — things that have been sorely lacking for the young Hornets team.

“We’re trying to build habits, build culture, build a team that really impacts winning,” Williams said in an interview following the Hornets’ win on Monday night. “It’s something that you want for your hometown and I feel like we’re building something here.”

During the interview, Williams, a graduate of Providence Day School in south Charlotte, mentioned that fans “bought in” at the end of the game. That is something that quite frankly, has not happened much recently at Spectrum Center. In the closing minutes of Monday’s win, though, the energy went beyond the court into the stands as fans were on their feet chanting and cheering the home team on.

The win over the Pacers was fueled by Williams and Curry.

“There’s talent on our roster,” he said. “As long as we come in here and play with energy…sometimes when you had midseason trades you have that jolt of energy in the locker room, and you can tell everybody is excited to be here no matter the circumstances.”

Just as Williams has deep ties to Charlotte, playing in the Queen City has extra meaning for Curry as well. The younger son of Hornets legend Dell Curry and brother of Warriors superstar Steph Curry, he also talked about always wanting to don the Purple and Teal.

“I always dreamed of playing here and putting this jersey on, kind of living in the moment right now,” he said. “I’m just having fun with it while getting a chance to get back out here and compete.”

The Hornets’ next game is a home date with the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday evening.
