South Carolina football fans cheered on two Gamecock legends during Super Bowl LVIII. Deebo Samuel, a wide receiver/running back, and Javon Kinlaw, a defensive tackle, are two of the best players to ever play at USC, and they earned their way to the Super Bowl, where their San Francisco 49ers will face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The previous time Samuel played in the Super Bowl (also against the Chiefs), he had one of the finest Gamecock Super Bowl performances ever.
The Allegiant Stadium crowd in Las Vegas knew they would be in for a treat on Sunday night, but they had no idea they would be watching an overtime thriller.
Unfortunately for the South Carolina football legend Samuel, he was injured in the 3rd quarter. The explosive playmaker had an issue with his leg that took him out of the game for a while. The injury appeared to be a hamstring ailment, and after some time off the field, he returned to the game. However, Samuel was not able to play at full speed after returning, just touching the ball one time.
Without their second-best playmaker on the field, the San Francisco 49ers could not score enough to hold off the surging Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led a comeback that forced overtime, and after a San Francisco field goal in overtime, the future Hall of Famer cooly guided his troops down the field for the game-winning touchdown in the extra period.
For the game, Samuel managed just 41 yards from scrimmage, largely due to being limited after the injury.
With the most talented roster in the NFC returning, Samuel and the ‘9ers will be the favorite from the conference to make it back to the Super Bowl next year.
