South Carolina Football: Gamecocks pick up in-state commitment
On Wednesday, Shane Beamer, the football coach at South Carolina, and his staff received a commitment. Jake Recker, an Indian Land High School walk-on offensive lineman and long snapper, is a preferred addition to the program for the 2024 class. He made his promise known on his personal X/Twitter profile.
Recker, a 6-foot-5-inch, 300-pound child, plays with a lot of physicality. He saw action at left tackle the most of the time, but he also saw action at the other five offensive line positions. For his Warriors squad, he played long snapper as well.
Recker is an offensive lineman who sets an anchor as a pass blocker and generates push in the run game because to his solid base. As a high school basketball player, he is not particularly athletic, but he has enough foot speed to get where he has to go. He has a talent at engaging defenders with his hands without holding, even from odd angles.
When he gets his claws on smaller players at the second and third level, Recker lives up to his last name. He frequently completes those blocks by laying over the top of the “recked” defender.
In high school, Recker played special team and snapped punt and field goal snaps. His field goal snapping ability was rather amazing. There can never be too many snapping players on a team, and Recker’s presence on the field gives new special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis the much-needed injury insurance.
A North-South Game participant, Recker played alongside fellow South Carolina football walk-ons CJ Dixon (defensive tackle, South Pointe) and Isaiah McClary (defensive back, Irmo). McClary was the Defensive MVP of the game.
Jake Recker picked the Gamecocks despite scholarship offers from Charlotte and The Citadel.
