Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers are seeking for a solution at quarterback, which might include making a splash through trade this offseason. Team President Art Rooney II stated that they are not “closing the door” on the idea of making a trade yet. During an interview with KDKA’s Bob Pomepeani, Rooney stated that the team is willing to solve the quarterback position as required. As they reach the NFL Combine and approach free agency, the team is willing to make a trade if necessary to get a starter-caliber quarterback this summer.

“As we sit here early February, we’re not closing the door on anything,” Rooney was quoted as saying. “We have a lot of evaluations to complete. And we’ll consider all of our choices and do whatever it takes to improve this season.”

Rooney said during his press conference at the end of the season that the “next step” is for the team to get quality quarterback play. He and head coach Mike Tomlin said they expect Kenny Pickett to take a step forward in year three, but understand the urgency and pressure that is on their first-round draft pick. Pittsburgh has also expressed interest in retaining Mason Rudolph, but with the veteran hitting the free agency market, it’s uncertain if that will happen. The Steelers have been linked to names like Justin Fields throughout the offseason, and currently, the expected asking price for the Chicago Bears quarterback is a second and third-round pick. If they would need to give up a first-round, Pittsburgh currently holds the 20th pick.
