5-star LB visits again and plans to return shortly.
Tyler Atkinson, who had previously visited Auburn several times and attended a few games in the autumn, returned on Friday. But this time, he was with his family and had the opportunity to spend more time at the football facilities and speak with the Auburn coaching staff.
Atkinson and his family arrived on Thursday night and began their visit on Friday by visiting campus, meeting with coaches, attending academic meetings, and more.
Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett is departing for an NFL job.
Hugh Freeze will be making more staff changes as he enters his second year at Auburn.
Auburn Undercover has learned that Tigers defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett will be hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars as their new defensive line coach. Garrett notified the team of his choice earlier this week, and Jacksonville is anticipated to make an official announcement soon. The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Garrett’s departure marks the fifth assistant position turnover at Auburn since the 2023 season, as Freeze has had to replace offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, defensive coordinator Ron Roberts, safeties coach Zac Etheridge, and running backs coach Cadillac Williams.
Garrett’s defensive line was a nice surprise for Auburn in 2023, with Marcus Harris earning first-team All-SEC recognition. Garrett has also been one of Auburn’s top recruiters since joining Freeze’s inaugural staff last year, as the Tigers signed top-30 prospect Amaris Williams in the 2024 class and currently have two of the top ten defensive tackles in the 2025 class in Malik Autry and Antonio Coleman.
Garrett spent one season coaching Liberty’s defensive line after working as an assistant defensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL. He played at Ole Miss while Freeze was an assistant coach in the mid-2000s.
