While all eyes are currently on the spectacle of a Las Vegas-hosted Super Bowl, the Jacksonville Jaguars are already gearing up for the 2024 NFL season.
While the Jacksonville Jaguars experienced a bad season in 2023, it was not a complete fall.
In reality, numerous players had better seasons than the Jaguars’ 2022 playoff run. Among those individuals was second-year linebacker Devin Lloyd, who improved from a liability as a rookie to a good run-defender in his second season.
“I believed Devin [Lloyd] moved in the correct path. He may still clean up and work on some things this spring, but I believe things have slowed significantly for him this year. “It can only get better for him,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson stated at the end of the season.
Lloyd was named the Jaguars’ single most-improved player by Pro Football Focus, beating out players such as Darious Williams, Josh Allen, and Travon Walker. According to PFF, Lloyd’s PFF grade increased from 48.3 as a rookie to 78.1 in 2023. “Lloyd was a liability in coverage and run defense during his rookie year, but he improved in both areas during his sophomore season. “He finished the season with a 90.3 run-defense grade, ranking third among linebackers,” PFF stated.
Lloyd started 15 games for the Jaguars as an inside linebacker this season, totaling 127 tackles, two tackles for loss, one quarterback hit, two fumble recoveries, and seven pass deflections. Lloyd is expected to begin his third season as a starter in 2024, under new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen.
