Las Vegas has the 13th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. They have several holes to fill this offseason, including quarterback. While quarterback Aidan O’Connell performed well in the second part of the season, the Raiders’ starting quarterback job will be hotly contested this offseason. This year’s Draft only contains a few top-tier quarterbacks, and they’ll all be gone by the time Las Vegas reveals their pick. This has sparked speculation that the Raiders might trade up with one of the top teams in the Draft to choose their future quarterback.
The Raiders have nine draft selections this year and several roster openings to fill. Some of those holes are just a player or two away from being completed. O’Connell performed admirably this season, especially given the challenging circumstances.
O’Connell performed well enough this season to earn the opportunity to compete for the Raiders’ starting quarterback position this offseason. However, as difficult as this season was, the Raiders had a chance at the playoffs until one of the last games.
They have a new head coach who will have the whole offseason to make the necessary changes, as well as a new general manager who understands how to rebuild a club. Telesco has been pretty successful overall with his first-round draft choices, even some who were expected to be successful, like as Joey Bosa. The Raiders can add to their roster as they see appropriate. There is no doubt that the quarterback position need improvements. However, Las Vegas should not put its future at risk by betting on a quarterback who may not pan out.
Telesco should not want to stake his legacy with the Raiders on such a risky move so early in his career. He has the understanding and eye for talent to remain at 13th overall and add to other positions on the squad that might benefit from a top talent, such as offensive lineman or linebacker, while looking for another quarterback through free agency or the trade market.
