The New Orleans Saints have an empty seat in the coaches’ room and have identified a highly sought-after candidate to replace it, who may greatly benefit the Saints.
While the New Orleans Saints’ choice to keep head coach Dennis Allen elicited some moans from supporters, the same cannot be said about the franchise’s decision to remove offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael of his duties.

Carmichael’s effectiveness as offensive coordinator was somewhat of a lightning rod problem among Saints supporters, and his resignation leaves a post unfilled. The squad isn’t wasting time and is targeting a popular candidate.

It comes as no surprise that several assistant coaches on DeMeco Ryan’s Houston Texans staff are vying for head coaching positions. Their turnaround in only one year has been nothing short of spectacular, with rookie quarterback CJ Stroud being the most notable contributor.

With Johnson acting as his quarterback coach and working so closely with Stroud throughout his rookie season, which will undoubtedly go down in history, it’s easy to say he had an important role in the young quarterback’s success.

Given the talent on their roster and the strength of the division, the Saints must extract every ounce of potential from their quarterback play. That did not happen in 2023, but there is still hope. A new, fresh face as offensive coordinator might solve some of their problems. The essential word there is “some,” but it opens up a whole other set of issues.

If the next Orleans Saints do appoint Jerrod Johnson as their next offensive coordinator, it may be considered a “splash” hire given what he accomplished in a short amount of time during the 2023 season. We still have a long way to go, but there is cause to be excited.
