On The Ryen Russillo Podcast, Colorado football head coach Dan Lanning discussed his contentious pregame address before his Oregon Ducks defeated the Buffs 42-6.

“At that point, I think I had coached 17 games as a head coach,” Lanning stated (via Ducks Wire). “I’d never had a crew say, ‘Hey, can we be in the locker room?'” And, to be honest, I expected a lot to be cut out because you leave the locker room and walk right to the field, but that definitely did not happen.

So if you’re asking me, “Was that going to play out the way it did?” It didn’t go the way I expected. I felt there were some very great stuff in there about our relationship with our team, and what the roots of a tree look like, but I guess that’s not as nice for TV.”

Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire termed the statements “good television,” and he completely understood why his footage were edited as they were.

“It’s not hard to see why the TV production crew chose to use the sound bites from Lanning that they did,” Neel stated in an email. “With all of the hype that Coach Prime had built around the Colorado program in the first three weeks of the season, having an opposing coach passionately declare that “the Cinderella narrative is over” certainly makes for good television.”

Dan Lanning seemed to be resentful of Coach Prime’s media limelight with Colorado football.

Lanning’s continued discussion of the Colorado game suggests anger at Coach Prime for the media attention he receives. Given his success with Oregon so far, it’s understandable, especially because his Ducks haven’t received the same degree of attention despite being a top 10 NY6 bowl champion.

With more high-profile programs and richer legacies in the Big Ten, Oregon may eventually receive more attention.

It just will not shine as brightly as Deion Sanders does.
