NC State continued Tuesday the prospect reunion that it’s conducting through the portal, this time with the addition of ex-Oklahoma running back Daylan Smothers. Like several others who’ve come on board in the last month, Smothers was a major State target coming out of high school.
Smothers opted for OU over NC State during the last recruiting cycle, but ended up getting little opportunity with the Sooners: he finished the 2023 season with 11 carries, seven of which came in the season-opener against Arkansas State. Since he only appeared in four games, he maintained his redshirt and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Smothers was a consensus four-star prospect coming out of West Charlotte and will add to what was already a solidly re-made running back room at NC State. The Wolfpack brought in Duke leading rusher Jordan Waters last month, returns Kendrick Raphael, and adds ‘24 prospect Duke Scott to the fold.
