Mike Vrabel was fired by the Tennessee titans on Tuesday, and Ohio State fans can’t help but dream a little.
Many Buckeyes fans and even some in the media suggested that Ohio State make a run at Vrabel to replace Ryan Day
Vrabel has deep ties to Ohio State. He was an All-American defensive end for the Buckeyes and is part of the school’s athletics hall of fame. After his long NFL career ended, Vrabel went into coaching immediately for his alma mater. Vrabel spent three seasons at Ohio State from 2011-2013, coaching linebackers and then the defensive line. Vrabel then moved to the NFL where he coached linebackers for the Houston Texans for three seasons and then became their defensive coordinator in 2017. Vrabel served as Tennessee’s head coach from 2018-2023. He was the NFL’s 2021 Coach of the Year.
Ohio State has gone 11-2 three seasons in a row under Day. They have lost three years in a row to Michigan, which has left Ohio State fans extremely unhappy with him. Day has gone 56-8 as the Buckeyes’ head coach overall.
