The Seminoles will have a veteran offensive line to protect transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.
There has been a lot of movement across Florida State’s roster since the beginning of December as players have grappled with their futures. Whether that’s entering the NCAA Transfer Portal or declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft, important decisions have to be made in a span of just a few weeks.
On Monday, the Seminoles received more good news as redshirt senior offensive tackle Jeremiah Byers revealed that he was returning to the program for another season through an announcement with The Battle’s End. After exploring the option of making the jump to the professional level, he will come back to Tallahassee to boost his stock.
Byers is coming off a campaign where he played the most snaps of anyone on Florida State’s roster while starting in all 14 games. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive tackle was a reliable piece of FSU’s offensive line. With Byers back in the fold, the Seminoles will have a veteran group to protect transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei that also includes offensive tackle Robert Scott, offensive tackle Darius Washington, center Maurice Smith, and offensive guard Keiondre Jones.
Byers began his college career at UTEP where he appeared in 33 games, with 30 starts, over four years. He was named a First-Team All-Conference USA selection in 2022 and was regarded as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the transfer portal.
Outside of Byers, running back Lawrance Toafili, running back Caziah Holmes, wide receiver Darion Williamson, wide receiver Destyn Hill, offensive lineman Robert Scott, offensive lineman Darius Washington, offensive lineman Maurice Smith, offensive lineman Keiondre Jones, defensive end Patrick Payton, defensive end Byron Turner Jr, safety Shyheim Brown, punter Alex Mastromanno, and kicker Ryan Fitzgerald have all announced they’ll return to Florida State since December.
