The final game of the 2023 season could prove a profitable one for Seahawks star Geno Smith.
The 33-year-old quarterback has proved one of Seattle’s most important players over the past two seasons. And with 3,435 yards and 18 touchdowns to just nine interceptions on the season, Smith figures to be central in the Seahawks’ efforts to secure playoff qualification.
Seattle Seahawks’ linebacker Bobby Wagner was among three Seahawks’ players who were selected to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, the NFL announced Wednesday.
Wagner, along with rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon and safety Julian Love were selected. Wagner was named to the Pro Bowl for the ninth time in his career, Witherspoon and Love were first-time selections.
Wagner’s ninth Pro Bowl selection during his 11 years in the NFL ties him with Hall of Fame tackle Walter Jones and quarterback Russell Wilson for the most in franchise history.
Wagner returned to the Seahawks in 2023 after spending a year with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. He leads the team with 168 total tackles, second in the NFL and the number is just three away from his career high. Wagner also has 3.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Wagner has posted at least 100 tackles in 12 consecutive seasons, just the third player to do so since the NFL began tracking tackles as a statistic.
Witherspoon has 16 passes defensed in 2023, which ranks first among rookies and fifth overall in the NFL. His 68 tackles rank fifth among rookies and his 3.0 sacks rank 11th among rookies. Witherspoon was named the NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month in October and he’s a strong candidate for the NFC Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Love, who signed with the Seahawks as a free agent in March, has set career-highs in interceptions (four) and passes defensed (10), and has 103 tackles, while also playing a big role on special teams, recording a team-leading 12 tackles.
The 2024 Pro Bowl Games is a four-day event featuring competition between players from the AFC and NFC in Orlando, Florida. The event begins with a skills competition on Thursday, Feb. 1 and concludes with an AFC vs. NFC flag football game on Feb. 4.
