The Seattle Seahawks no longer control their playoff destiny.
The Seattle Seahawks must have a feeling of Groundhog Day as they prepare for their Week 18 clash against the Arizona Cardinals. In a similar position to last season where the Seahawks needed a win and other results to go their way to secure playoff football, they again need the same.
The 30-23 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home on Sunday was brutal as it took the Seahawks’ potential playoff path out of their hands. They will again have to rely on outside results going their way to make it back to the postseason.
“The process is to go back to work,” Smith said. “That’s the main thing for me. Shoot, I’m going to keep working hard. I’m going to work my butt off, get back to the weight room in the morning, get back to the film room, figure out a way to be better next week. That’s all I can do is continue to work my tail off, continue to help the guys get better, continue to lead this team. Like I said, we got a chance, we got opportunities still in front of us, so nobody is going to feel sorry around here. We’re going to pick it up and keep going.”
The Seahawks have had an up-and-down second half of the season as at one stage, they were 6-3 and crusing.
But after four straight losses, the tide turned against the Seahawks. They did manage to steady the ship, but the loss to Pittsburgh put an almighty spanner in their playoff push.
Now, needed a win on the road against a Cardinals team that pushed around the Philadelphia Eagles in their own building, it’s an uphill battle for the Seahawks to secure a playoff berth.
And that battle starts with putting in the work this week to give themselves the best chance at making it to the postseason.
