Ivisic has reunited with his teammates ahead of their flight to Florida.
Update: According to KSR, Zvonimir Ivisic is back on campus and rejoining Kentucky Basketball after a holiday trip back home to Croatia.
This is major news, since many expected Ivisic would stay in Croatia and not return to the squad, considering how the NCAA has been dragging its feet on his eligibility status.
Thankfully, there is still optimism that Big Z will suit up for the Cats, hopefully soon.
The Kentucky Wildcats have risen to No. 6 in this week’s AP Poll, but they still lack one of their seven-footers.
Zvonimir Ivisic, who has yet to be cleared to play by the NCAA, has elected to return home to Croatia for the holidays.
Some questioned whether the 7-foot-2 center would return to Lexington, but John Calipari indicated he is scheduled to rejoin the team this week before the SEC opener in Florida.
Calipari recently informed reporters that Ivisic has been suffering with the circumstances, which is why he was sent home for the holidays.
It would have been easy for him to stay at home with his family and friends after returning home, but Calipari says he is eager to get back to Lexington.
“He (Ivisic) is desperate to return.” “He desperately wants to play for this university and these fans,” Calipari stated during his Monday call-in broadcast. “He went back and told everyone, ‘I’ve never been coached like this before.'” I’ve never been challenged in this way before. I enjoy the atmosphere and the supporters.’ He just wants to have fun.”
Calipari also confirmed that part of the hold-up with the NCAA is due to Ivisic making money while he was playing professionally in Croatia.
There are still a lot of questions about whether or not Ivisic will be granted eligibility, but hopefully, we will see him taking the floor for the Cats sooner rather than later.
