Over the weekend, the Boston Red Sox dealt All-Star left-hander Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves. The Red Sox receive excellent infielder Vaughn Grissom in return.

After the deal was finalized, the Red Sox paid respect to Sale by posting a video of Sale’s World Series-winning strikeout of Manny Machado in 2018.

Sale was in the final year of a five-year, $145 million contract extension with the Boston Red Sox, which he signed in 2019. To make the move possible, the 34-year-old player waived his no-trade clause, and the Red Sox will pay $17 million of his $27.5 million contract for the 2024 MLB season.

Chris Sale was acquired by the Red Sox in a trade from the Chicago White Sox in 2017. In his first two years with the team, he was named to the All-Star team and won his first World Series ring. However, due to a decrease in form, Tommy John surgery, and many injuries, Sale was unable to perform at the same level in the years that followed.

In 2023, Sale made 20 starts with the Red Sox, finishing with a 6-5 record, 4.30 ERA, and 125 strikeouts.

Vaughn Grissom has two seasons of MLB experience. He batted.287 with five home runs and 27 RBIs in 64 games for the Braves.

Chubb’s injury looks even worse, considering that the Dolphins already trailed by 30 at that point. When discussing his decision to keep the starters on the field in a game that was already lost, Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel said he would wish he had done things differently.

“The players wanted to go back in and play and finish the right way heading into next week. And I have the ability to tell them no on everything in this situation. There’s plenty of decisions that I’ll cross examine,” said McDaniel.

Bradley Chubb’s injury will be a significant blow for the Dolphins defense moving forward. Chubb has been exceptional in 2023, getting 11.0 sacks while adding a career-high 74 tackles, 22 QB hits, and six forced fumbles. Miami previously also lost standout linebacker Jaelen Phillips, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

“We’re going to take a look at it,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said about picking a quarterback to start against the Lions. “The decision we’ll make will be based upon that position putting our group in a place to try to move the football and have success. We did not do that tonight. We’ll take a look at it, and all options are on the table.” O’Connell made his statement after the Vikings slumped to a 33-10 loss against the Green Bay Packers, making it that much more difficult for the Minnesotans to clinch a playoff spot.
