This time of year, NFL fans have become accustomed to watching a different club than the Kansas City Chiefs.

Though it’s difficult to question the Chiefs in the postseason given Patrick Mahomes and company’s chances of making the playoffs, they have lost four of their last six games when the most dangerous teams are at their best and have looked uninspired offensively.

The Chiefs defense has surprisingly been their best suit this year. With two games remaining in the regular season, they have the second-best defense in the NFL overall, giving up just 30 touchdowns to opponents while allowing 287 yards per game.

While the Kansas City Chiefs defensive strength is against the pass, ranking third in the league in that category allowing just 173.8 yards through the air, they have struggled against the run at times.

One of the brightest spots and a staple of the Chiefs defense for the last several years has been defensive tackle Chris Jones. Right now, Jones has 28 tackles and 8.5 sacks, but Kansas City has a major decision to make in regards to the future of their superstar defensive tackle.

The  Chiefs are reaching an impasse when it comes to their superstar defensive linemen.

Their options? Pay him the approximate $30 million per year that he’s projected to make, franchise tag and trade him, or allow him to walk in NFL free agency. If either of the latter two scenarios occur, Kansas City will have to replace Jones as well.

Keep in mind, this deal would likely occur after a tag and trade of Jones, giving the Chiefs much more draft capital to work with.

Here’s what the Bleacher Report piece said about the potential trade. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently suggested Jonathan Allen is the most likely player to be traded this offseason and the Commanders’ captain has been vocal about his frustration playing in Washington.
