On October 15, 2023, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Tennessee Titans defensive back Shyheim Carter tackles Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards during an NFL game.
Shyheim Carter, a defensive back, made his NFL debut in October and is scheduled to play for the Tennessee Titans again on Sunday.
The former Alabama safety was promoted by the Titans from their practice squad on Saturday, allowing him to suit up for Sunday’s game between Tennessee and the Seattle Seahawks.
For every NFL game, two players from the practice squad may be added to the active roster.
Carter was cut or released nine times in his NFL career, having joined the league as an undrafted rookie from the Crimson Tide in 2020.
However, he played in the Titans’ 27-3 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals on October 1 and their 24-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on October 15 for 24 defensive snaps and 17 special teams plays.
Carter was a part of Tennessee’s hectic day of transactions.
On Saturday, the Titans placed linebackers Luke Gifford and Jack Gibbens on injured reserve in addition to defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Carter was probably necessary in Sunday’s game because Gifford and Gibbens are second and third, respectively, in special teams plays for Tennessee this season.
Along with elevating defensive back Tay Gowan from the practice squad, the Titans signed three players off the practice squad to the 53-man active roster: offensive lineman John Ojukwu, Andrew Rupcich, and linebacker JoJo Domann.
